Earthquake-Resistant Rural House

Load-bearing house using local materials

  • Year: 2015
  • Location: Rural Nepal

The 2015 earthquake destroyed many homes in rural Nepal. This design strengthens a traditional load-bearing house with locally available materials — using local labour, with no transport cost.

The weakest points of load-bearing walls — corners, long walls and joints — are reinforced with wooden ties, wall beams and cross-bracing, in a form that respects traditional Nepalese architecture.

My role: Design, construction details, drawings and 3D model.
