Logistics
When you enter the spacious lobby with tall glass windows, from the main entrance the information desk at an easily visible area with a direct view of the main staircase, cloakrooms and toilets. The café is also directly connected to the lobby with a separate entrance for the kitchen area. The galleries are connected to the loading and storage area and to the workshops via vertical connections for easy transport of exhibits. The loading space consists of a ramp that allows for trucks for loading and unloading goods. Then the loading area is connected to the storage area which is then connected to the galleries. They also have their own separate staircase for a more private flow. There are conference and meeting rooms on the ground floor which are accessible from the secondary entrance and also their own private entrance. The private meeting rooms consist of a sauna and a lounge area to cater their needs.
The auditorium is located on the first floor with the capacity of 300 people. There is a fire escape route located beside the platform. The backstage area of the auditorium serves as a storage space. The exhibition gallery and an outdoor exhibition area is also located on the first floor. The second floor consists of office areas and workshop which share a common kitchen and break rooms accessible from both areas. These areas can be accessed from the lobby or from private staircases. The third floor is the private area comprising of the live-in facilities for researchers. The accommodation space contains various types of living spaces with a capacity of up to 60 persons. The air-conditioning and other services are located in the fourth floor.
Structure and ventilation
The structure of the building is based on the frame system to transfer loads and cross bracing to support wind loads. Steel frame is a building technique with a “skeleton frame” of vertical steel columns and horizontal I-beams, constructed in a rectangular grid to support the floors, roof and walls of a building which are all attached to the frame.
